How the fare is worked out
Every fare here comes from one document: the bus fare chart issued by BRTA's Dhaka Metro Passenger and Goods Transport Committee, in force from 22 September 2026 under notification 35.00.0000.020.26.005.16-540.
The rule
The chart charges ৳2.70 per passenger per kilometre, with a minimum fare of ৳10, rounded to the nearest taka. Its footnotes add that no amount may be charged on top of these fares, and that the rate does not apply to gas-powered vehicles.
| Distance | At ৳2.70 a km | Fare |
|---|---|---|
| 2.2 km | ৳5.94 | ৳10 |
| 4.7 km | ৳12.69 | ৳13 |
| 11.4 km | ৳30.78 | ৳31 |
| 18.9 km | ৳51.03 | ৳51 |
When the chart prints the fare
The chart has 111 sheets, one per route, with 7,409 printed fares between pairs of stops. When a sheet lists both stops of your ride, its printed fare is shown and marked official, and the result shows the exact cell it came from.
42 printed fares differ from the rule, most of them ৳10 where the rule gives ৳11 for a ride of about 4 km. The printed fare is the legal one, so it is the one shown, with a note. One cell is printed below the chart's own ৳10 minimum (৳8 on A-341); there the minimum is shown instead.
Two routes can join the same pair of stops by different roads. A sheet's fare is used for a bus only if at least half of the stops the sheet prints in between are also on that bus's route, or the two distances are within 15% of each other. When several sheets qualify, a sheet the bus itself runs on comes first; otherwise the one that shares the most stops with the bus and is closest to its distance.
When no sheet covers the ride
The fare is the same rate applied to the distance along the bus's route, marked by the rate. The distance between each pair of neighbouring stops comes from the chart's own kilometres where a sheet prints both (55% of all stop-to-stop segments), from the shortest way through the chart's road network (5%), or, failing both, from the straight line on the map lengthened by 15% for the roads, the median the chart's own distances show (40%). A fare that rests on that last estimate is marked as one whenever the estimate could change it.
A journey with a change pays each bus separately, and each bus has its own ৳10 minimum.
Where the data comes from
- Fares: the BRTA fare chart, transcribed cell by cell from the scanned PDF. Every cell was checked against the ৳2.70 per km rule, and every disagreement was read again on the scan before it was accepted.
- Buses and their stops: 182 services and the stops each one calls at, in order, collected on 18 October 2026.
- Stop locations: matched to OpenStreetMap and checked against the chart's distances. The map itself is OpenStreetMap.
What to keep in mind
- Routes, stops and hours change, and buses do not always call at every listed stop.
- The chart's fares are for diesel buses; gas-powered vehicles are outside it.
- This site is independent. It is not run by BRTA or by any bus company.
